Like many people you probably feel drawn to the idea of healing with hypnotherapy but would like to find out more about what it entails and how the process works. You will find a lot of information in this article.

Whether you are setting out to heal your mind or your body with hypnotherapy- you are putting yourself on a journey of personal work. On the info graphic below see my model of personal work through four stages or levels. Within that, most articles this page links to relate to levels one and two where you do most of the heavy lifting. Levels three and four deal with success programming and finding your mission and purpose.
For most people however, this work does not happen in strictly chronological order. Even when you are working at levels three and four already, you may be dipping back into clearing level one and two issues every now and then. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool you can use throughout all levels.
Of course one could work on these issues using psychotherapy.
I have found working with psychotherapy is that to really shift an
issue, you have to invest a lot of time. You are talking about weekly
psychotherapy sessions for probably around two years minimum before you
can hope to see any substantial change in your life.
Think of the cost involved. When you are calculating the cost for weekly psychotherapy
sessions over a period of two years you end up spending a tidy sum.
And then there are some issues that are extremely difficult to get to with psychotherapy. Fears and phobias, for example, in my experience, would be next to impossible to resolve using psychotherapy alone.
Healing with hypnotherapy works directly at the source of the problem- in the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy uses two prime methods to literally help you change your mind.
With just a few hypnotherapy sessions you can get substantial relief from symptoms.

In my article on suggestion hypnosis I have written in detail about how powerful censors guard the subconscious mind preventing change in adult life.
These censors make sure that many crucial memories, especially those from very early childhood before the age of three, are locked away. Access to the subconscious mind becomes very much restricted after that. This causes a situation where the mind cannot update itself.
that is how many deep personal issues will arise: depression, anxiety, fears
and phobias, low self esteem and lack of self confidence all arise not because you are doing anything wrong, but because- without outside help, your mind is unable to ‘update’
Such deep personal issues are wide spread today. Many people reach for medication in an attempt to relieve their symptoms, but often medication doesn’t work, or produces disturbing side effects.
Let's look at working on these issues with coaching and psychotherapy before moving on to how hypnotherapy can help.
Many success and life coaches would have you believe that all you have to do to overcome your deep internal blocks is to...well...essentially just 'snap' out of it. To simply start doing things differently.
Coaching works in the present moment. Most coaching approaches don't take into account what your history may have been. They don't look at trauma. They don't look at your conditioning. They aim at simply facilitating change in the here and now.
The coaching approach may work for many people. Those with deep personal issues however, will often feel left behind. In a coaching program, they may experience some changes initially, but eventually will revert back to the old, familiar self-destructive patterns.

If so, please know that there is nothing 'wrong' with you. The issue is simply that the existing old wiring in your mind continues to determine your emotions and your actions- until...well until you finally upgrade it.

To cut a long story short, my professional opinion is that while both coaching and psychotherapy are excellent methods for holding clients in a supportive relationship, neither coaching nor psychotherapy are ideal methods for shifting (as in truly 'getting rid of') subconsciously held material.
I have formed this opinion gradually over a period of 25 years of working as a psychotherapist. Over the last few years I have come to see that hypnotherapy is a far superior tool when it comes to genuinely shifting deep issues.

In fact, hypnotherapy has been shown to be a highly effective method of healing for many issues.
